There are healthy and safety regulations governing the use of lift trucks. Any big equipment, such as a lift truck, is potentially dangerous and must be used safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver must perform daily inspections on the lift truck and more thorough inspections each and every week and on a monthly basis. The following checks should be done on the lift truck:

Forklift Brakes - brakes on lift trucks are key features which must be double and triple checked. A brake check is carried out with various pedal heights and pressures to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights should be checked at the same time.

The Tires - the tires are also important to the safe functioning of the truck and to the braking system. All the tires have to be correctly inspected to make sure that there are no punctures in the tires and they are inflated to the right pressure.

Controller - the forklift controller system is inspected by operating the forks and the release to determine that the system is in good working order. Any hint of issues should immediately reported and tended to. The forklift should not be utilized until the controller system has been repaired.

Steering Wheel - the driver must inspect the forklift steering wheel in order to make certain the turning of the wheel is right. Lift truck safety depends upon the steering wheel responding well and working accurately. There are various types of checks that can be done to determine steering wheel performance.

Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine needs oil. The dipstick will show the oil level and the colour of the oil. The oil must be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination occurring.

Fire Extinguisher - all lift trucks are required to be outfitted with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher needs to be tested to ensure it would work correctly in case of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher should be inspected in certain ways. Like for instance, a dry chemical extinguisher should be shaken.
