Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are connected to make an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is situated on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile that is ideal for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These equipment use either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator should move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, since the lift apparatus only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is particularly designed for uneven surfaces. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam that raises both vertically and diagonally. This unit has a small work platform that houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These equipment provide a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is very essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
