The lift truck has been around since the early 1920's. This kind of machinery was developed in the 1920s and ever since its invention, has become one of the most of the indispensable pieces of warehousing and manufacturing equipment within the globe.

Sometimes called forklifts, amongst their initial uses was carrying and transporting luggage at airports and train stations. During the Second World War the use of these equipment exploded and the warehousing industry expanded greatly. The traditional equipment was adapted to handle the requirements of stacking inventory on higher shelves and they were designed to carry heavier cargo and move faster.

Normally, lift truck trucks are used for stacking inventory in warehouses. In most cases, items are packed onto pallets which make it ideal for the tines to move in between the open spaces of the pallets. The lift truck could then securely carry the load without it wobbling or falling onto the ground. When the pallets are in place, they can be transported easily to another place. Lift trucks are also utilized much in the mining, agricultural, shipping and docking industry.

The lift truck is also seen on constructions locations, because many models have been designed to pick up large heavy boxes and concrete slabs, heavy pipes, other equipment and ceramics. As it is fairly a compact unit, this specific machine can move from one location to another at a moderately good speed.

Depending upon the particular model and its intended use, the forklifts dimensions can vary. There are narrow aisle models particularly for warehouse use. These are quite a bit smaller in size and need the floor to be really flat. Normally, they are designed with rear wheel steering. There has been a dramatic increase in these machines within the manufacturing and mining machinery businesses. As lift trucks often deal with flammable supplies, petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, the machinery have become more durable and tougher.

Forklifts have a load capacity varying from 1 to 5 tons. There are heavy-duty units that can handle up to 50 tons. These models are normally utilized to load shipping equipment off of and into ships. Lift trucks and their required training to operate are specially regulated to ensure the safety of the individuals utilizing this particular machine. No one can use them legally without finishing the proper training and documents.
